Monitor Problems - monitor goes blank

Expert: Chris Morrison - 7/12/2008

Question
I have a problem that has been intermittent, but now seems permanent, with my LCD monitor (AOS LM928, 19").  The screen goes blank on startup after about 1 second on each display (motherboard, bios, XP, "welcome", desktop).  The green monitor light stays on and the display will return, but just for 1 second, whenever I turn off the monitor then turn it back on again.  I have a Radeon X700 graphics card.

Answer
Buy some canned air from an office supply store. use the canned air to blow out all the vent holes of the monitor. Also unplug the monitor.
Also open your computer case and use the canned air to blow the computer out also. Pay special attention to fans and the power supply. The power supply will have vent holes on  2 sides make sure you blow in both vents really well.
View your add on video card, make sure it is snug in its, slot. You may want to actually remove it and reinsert it into it's slot.Leave the monitor unplugged for about one day. Move any speakers away from the monitor. After about one day plug the monitor back in. Use the buttons on the front to enter the monitor menu and if reset is available choose to reset.
If the problem persists, check the monitor on another computer. If the problem goes away, check your video cable and the video card.
