Question
I have one of those huge, old style Dell monitors. Before I run out and invest in a new flat panel modern monitor, I'd like some advice on what the monitor image is doing.  This big monitor is probably about 5 to 7 years old or so.  I've never had any problems with it until last night, when my normal viewing image suddenly looked like it was stretched horizontally like a rubber band.  Everything was "pulled" to the left and right (thus the image, desktop, etc. run about 1 inch off the screen on each side.  The images, no matter if it's the desktop, a photo, or something viewed on the internet, are all "stretched" horizontally and "flattened" vertically.  After I shut down the computer and powered everything back up again, the image came up perfect again.  No sign of the stretching.  Then today I was on the computer and the image was fine one minute and then the next minute, the image became stretched out again.  Any ideas what's wrong?  Any suggestions on what needs to be done to clear this up?  If I have to invest in a new monitor, any suggestions on a dependable model and brand that is reasonably priced?  Thanks.

Answer
First if you have speakers near the monitor...move them away. Use the buttons on the front to enter the menu and use the degauss feature.
Go into windows and check the type and model of video card in device manager. Go to the computer manufacturer's website and download the newest video drivers for your system. Install and reboot.
You can also purchase some canned air and use it to blow out the monitor and computer. Unplug the mointor and let it sit for about 1 day to discharge.
Plug it back in and check function.
