About Elisa Jordan
Expertise
I can answer questions pertaining to almost all aspects of Marilyn’s life and career. I’m familiar with her movies, training, and accomplishments and can also field inquiries regarding her childhood, relationships (romantic, friendships and otherwise), emotional and medical ailments, and what she was like in general. My expertise is limited when it comes to the value of memorabilia.

Experience
I’ve been a Marilyn Monroe fan since the early 1980s and grew up watching her films on television. I’ve spent countless hours researching her and have built up an extensive library on all things Marilyn. As a Southern California native, I have been able to easily visit and photograph many of the sites that played important roles in Marilyn’s life, such as houses, studios, restaurants, her grave, and so on. Furthermore, I have visited sites in San Diego, Reno/Dayton, and New York City that were homes or filming sites—allowing me to retrace many of Marilyn’s steps, literally. I was also fortunate enough to attend the 1999 Christie’s auction in New York, the 2005 Julien’s auction in Los Angeles and the 2009 auction in Las Vegas.

Question
Hi there,In the year 1956 or 1957 Marilyn was filming the River of No Return in Banff, Canada. My mother was there at this time and she and Marilyn had a conversation, Mom says Marilyn was a very nice young lady and she enjoyed talking with her. Anyway Marilyn posed for Mom at the top of the Gondola at Banff and Mom still has that picture. She would like to know what it is worth. You can see the cast on Marilyn's leg as she broke it during filming. If you need I can get the picture and scan if for you to see.

Any help would be appreciated and have a good day

Carol

Answer
Hi Carol,

Thank you so much for writing in. What an AMAZING photo to have in your family. Congratulations!

The River of No Return was released in 1954, when Marilyn was fresh off the success of 1953’s Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and How to Marry a Millionaire. The Canadian scenery is spectacular and is practically a character itself in the movie at times!

I’m not an expert in memorabilia, but Julien’s recently sold several Marilyn Monroe photos at auction this summer. My guess would be that it’s worth a few hundred dollars but you should probably check with the experts to find out for sure. http://www.juliensauctions.com/

I would love to see the photo! You can email me at elisathemarilynexpert@gmail.com if you ever get around to scanning it. Also, I don’t know if you’re interested but Michelle Morgan in England authored the book Marilyn Monroe: Private and Undisclosed and it’s filled with previously unseen photos of Marilyn. I believe she’s looking for more if there’s a second edition ever comes out. You can contact her at http://www.michellemorgan.co.uk/ I don’t know how Michelle works out deals for photos, so you would have to ask her.

Hope that helps get you started. Please feel free to check back if you have more questions.

Cheers!
Elisa
