Montreal Expos - Playoffs

Expert: Sebastien Robert - 1/26/2005

Question
When was the last time this franchise made it to the post season.  Have they ever won a postseason series?

Answer
Hi Michael,

The Nationals... I mean Expos last made the playoffs in 1981. They won the division series against the Philadelphia Phillies (it was during the strike year, and the winner of the first half met the winner of the second half. Oddly enough, if you combined records from both halves, the St. Louis Cardinals had the best overall record but did not make the playoffs because they won neither halves) and then lost to the LA Dodgers in the NLCS on a 9th-inning HR by Rick Monday off of Steve Rogers in game 5. It was tabbed "Blue Monday" in Expos lore. In 1994, before the strike cancelled the season in late August, the Expos were 74-40, leading the East by 6 over Atlanta and well on their way to a postseason berth. Unfortunately, numbers got in the way.

Hope this helps

Seb
