Question Today my soon attended a baseball workshop in Princeton, NJ, and he says one of the instructors was Steve Rogers. What can you tell me about him? I remember him from the 70`s as one of the best in the game who would probably have had much better W-L stats had he played for a stronger offensive team. What were his lifetime record, era? What is he doing now? What were his strengths as a pitcher? Did he play for anyone but the Expos?
Answer Hi Steve,
Wow, Steve Rogers was awesome indeed. His lifetime record with the Expos was 158-152, with an ERA of 3.17. Sorry I can not give you his full lifetime stats, but I can tell you he also played for the Angels at the end of his career and my guess is he added 5-6 wins to his totals max. As for what he's doing now, he's a baseball instructor? Hehe, just joking, I unfortunately don't have access to that info either, but I'm sure what he's doing he's doing well. His strengths as a pitcher were his curveball and a sneaky fastball. He also had a good slider to go with his arsenal. His offspeed stuff was so-so, but his fastball could reach 89-90 MPH
Hope this helps, and next time your son sees a former Expos, tell him to grab me an autograph :-)
