Question Hi,
I have been a Expos fan for years . I am having doubts, as I feel cheated as a dedicated fan about the roller coaster ride of the fate of the future of the team. I was so happy when Loria gave them a new life in the begining of the season. The planning of the new stadium and aquisition of new players was a joy.
Now all the players are developing negative attitudes and fans are left out in the cold. I had plans on going to see the Expos , but have decided not to as the enthusism has gone. Do you have any update on the latest? I go on the internet daily , but never any news . Is the stadium ( Labatts) a thing of the Past?
The team and Alou deserve better and if the city of Montreal won`t support them they deserve to be moved to a location that will appreciate them. Do you agree or do you still see a spot of hope for Expos in Montreal?
Thanks

Answer Hi Rory,
I understand your frustration as I myself have been on this roller coaster ride ever since Bronfman sold to Brochu and partners. But I'm afraid I can't give you any update except for maybe the shareholders selling to Loria. The only people that know what will happen to the Expos are Loria, Samson and their respective families. Whatever the media says or writes is baloney as it is pure speculation. My guess is they'll be gone anywhere from here to 2002. Miracles have happened, but I just don't see one happening in our case. Loria thinks Montreal can't support a team, but what he doesn't know (along with 99% of people out there), is that Montreal can and would support a baseball team to its fullest if that team showed it wanted to win by 1) Not making stupid trades (Irabu, Pedro, Rondell White come to mind), 2) signing top players to long term deals (how come Vidro's not signed for 5 years? Sign Geoff Blum now or forever lose him once he becomes a freebie, etc, etc., 3) Keep players happy (not the case today), and 4), keep promises (they were supposed to start digging for the new stadium in March). Montreal has supported a strong franchise before (77 to 84, 92-94), so it can support a ball team. But as for the status of the Expos today, it's bleak. Noone knows of Loria's intentions, no stadium on the horizon, some players are pissed (Hermanson, Kline, Widger), and the fans couldn't care less right now. Can you blame them?
