Question I have a 1983 sportster that needs to have the transmission removed and I don't know how to remove it can you tell me what I need to do? and what special tools I will need. Thanks Bill
Answer on the right side of the bike you are going to have to remove the rear exhaust, chain, chain cover and sprocket. You will need a impact wrench to remove the sprocket nut.
On the left side of the bike you will need to remove the primary cover, motor sprocket with nut, clutch basket and chain. There is a clutch tool you will need to remove the pressure plate on the clutch. Once you have all this off you need to remove the bolts that hold the trap door on the trans and the trans will slide out.
If you are planning on doing this yourself you really need to get a service manual. You will find pics and step by step instructions
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
