i have a 1982 gl1100 and the fuel gauge does not work i was wondering if this is a common problem if theres anything i could or should check or how it might be fixed ect any info or even a tip on where to look for information that could help would be greatly apreciated thanks

Well, I'm not aware of any particular problem with those units but things do eventually break or wear out.  THe problem could be either the sender or the gage.  If you disconnect the sender the gage should go to empty and if you ground the unit it should go to fuel.  If it does, the problem is probably the sender.
