Motorcycle Repair - 96 XL 1200C

Expert: Mike Wells - 11/28/2008

Question
What is the widest rear tire that I can put on my 96 1200C with out having to install a wide tire conversion kit or rear fender? My bike is just stock. Also my front tire size is  MH90-21 can I run a 90/90H-21?

Answer
On the front tire you can use the 90/90H-21. On the rear, you can go to a 140 tire, but its going to be a tight squeeze and going from a 130 to a 140 is really not that much and looking at it you wont notice a difference. Also, you will be taking a chance on hitting the tire on the fender when you hit a hard bump. You will probably have to go with the wide tire conversion.

Good luck and happy riding
Mike
