you have a bad ground,which will the old school regulator nuts.now a bad rectifier diodes "old school" is easy to determine.use a mutimeter w/diode checker,not ohms[fluke is wat i use]. ck rect in the text way.harness connections should not,at each joint,drop more than .2volts.this system must use a flooded battery,new school sealed batterys will not be happy.staor must ck open to ground.can load stator 55w light bulb and 12 battery to ck for layer short.unloaded a/c volts at idle at least 18acv,more than 60 reved up.watts divided 4 will give you max a/c volts
