Motorcycle Repair - Engine Removal, '82 V45 Magna

Expert: Rich Johnston - 12/7/2008

Question
I am in the process of removing the engine from a '82 Magna. Can the exhaust
chamber and the pipes attached to the cylinder heads be left in place, and the
engine dropped from the frame? I have removed all the bolts and loosened all
the clamps, but the pipes are frozen in place from corrosion and age.
Any tips or suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.

Answer
I think you can get the engine out with the pipes on but I've never tried it myself.  If you look under the engine between the engine and on top of the muffler chamber you will find one more bolt.  If you take that one out, the exhaust will come right off.

Regards
Rich
