Motorcycle Repair - removel of rear wheel

Expert: Bill Silver - 12/11/2008

Question
Replacing the rear tire on a 1986 Honda Elite 150 deluxe.Which side of the scooter do I need to start taking off to get the tire and rim off? Any tricks or special tools that I will need to get before I start? Plus how do I go about changing the transmission fluid? Thanks for your time.    Wayne

Answer
Wayne...  Go to http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/honda-motorcycle-ch150d-elite-delux... for illustrations.

To remove the rear wheel, you have to remove the muffler, lock the rear wheel with the parking brake and have a big socket and breaker bar to remove the axle nut. Air tools are a good idea. If the wheel keeps turning, you can often put a long bar through the wheel holes and anchor it into the drive case. There is some oil in the drive case, but no real transmission oil.  The drive case has a drain plug and you have to fill it up through a tiny filler plug hole until the oil starts coming out of the filler hole.
