Subject: leak

Question
I have a strange leak I think it is coming from my trans. I have a 1980 flh. There is always a small leak somewhere but this one leaves a spot under the primary side right below where the clutch would be. If I leave the bike parked in gear the spot is alot smaller.Have any ideas? why would the spot be smaller if left in gear? Also do you have any suggestions on the stock kehin carb to get it to stop popping. The bike runs great but at a stoplight out of nowhere the bike will pop and die but not all the time. Also at speed it will sometimes hiccup. Thanks

Answer
Your leak is either the seal on the back of the inner primary where the trans shaft goes through, or the main seal on the trans. You would have to remove the inner primary to get to either one
On the popping, you might have a intake manifold leak and the rubber seals need replaced
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
