Subject: No spark, Headlight not working

Question
Hi Rich
I own a 1977 Honda 550 f, the problem is there is no spark to the number three cyclinder. I have cleaned and gapped the points still no spark when I touch the ignition coil wire to metal no spark.I also checked  for spark with spark plug  touching head and cranking engine. What would be the next step?
Headlight is not working, the bulb is good the fuse is good but there is no power to fuse operating the headlight. When I would start the bike the headlight would go on and off at times now doesn't work at all. What would the next step be. Help.........

.................Thanks Mike

Answer
Mike the no 2 and number 3 plugs fire at the same time so the problem is either in the coil or in the plug cap.  Turn the lights out in the garage while the bike is running.  You'll see the spark jump if it's the plug cap.

The headlight is obviously a electrical problem but it either in the main connector on the back of the headlight, the blue or white wire connections inside the headlight bucket or the connections going to the left hand switch. You'll just have to check each one to see if they are nice and clean.

Regards
Rich
