Motorcycle Repair/1985 FXRS

Question
Replaced the starter and starter solenoid on my 85 FXRS Low Glide. When connecting the battery, the starter engaged without the ignition switch or key being on. Tried swapping the lead cables going to the solenoid and got nothing. Not sure if the issue is elsewhere, a ground or crossed cables. Any help is greatly appreciated. All the best!

Answer
Disconnect the cable from the starter and connect the wires to the solenoid. Only one wire, the one comming from the battery should be hot. If both are hot, then the cables are connected backwards. Once you have them connected correctly, press the starter button. Does the wire comming from the starter relay get 12 volts? If not then the relay is bad
Good luck and happy riding
