Motorcycle Repair - fork cups

Expert: Mike Wells - 7/9/2009

Question
we need direction how to install fork cups in a 1999 harley
we are trying to change the triple tree to 5 degree rack no instructions with package

Answer
First you have to jack the bike up and remove the front wheel, fender, brake caliber, forks and triple trees. To get the old cups out, they are usually tight, you will have to use a long punch to drive them out. Once they are out install the new ones by pressing them in. you can make a tool to press them in by using two pieces of flat metal with a threaded rod going through them. using nuts you tighten the rod up as it pulls the cups in
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
