Motorcycle Repair - oil loss on 90 fxr

Expert: sportstertodd - 7/8/2009

Question
i changed the oil in my fxr and now i have no oil presure and the lifters are knocking i toke the lines off the oil pump and i have no oil in either lines what could the problem be

Answer
assuming that you did put oil back in the oil tank next try taking the large plug out from the top of your oil pumps check valve and removing the spring and with a pencil magnet remove the check ball, oil should start coming out of this port after a few seconds of good oil flow replace the ball and spring and then the plug. You probably just have a air bubble. Now if no oil comes out of that port when you have the plug out, then you have a plug in your supply hose or you tank has something restricting the oil passage.
