Motorcycle Repair - FXWG Carb Replacement

Question
Mike with all due respect to your recommendation to get the S&S I purchased the Edelbrock because it was less expensive and the rep at Drag Specialities said I might not have clearance with the S&S air cleaner. It appears I'll have to use the Edelbrock choke cable but can I still get by without safety concerns using my single throttle cable? Any other issues? Will I regret the Edelbrock over the S&S?

Thanks,

Paul

Thanks,

Question -
Mike , would the same be true for an Edelbrock as the S&S? What about converting to one of Harley's newer carbs and how much of a problem would that be. Some can be picked up cheap. Thanks for your patience.

Question -
Mike, I did some research on the S & S Super E and it said I would have to convert my one cable to two. Is that correct? I believe you said I could use my stock cable.

Thanks,
Paul

Question -
Mike, thanks for the response but can you be more specific like which S&S? Also would an intake have to be purchased separate and what about the throttle cable? I'm sorry but I didn't understand which air filter cover could be used.
Thanks,
Paul

Question -
Mike,
I have a 1980 FXWG. I need to replace the stock carb, but I'de very much like to do it without any modification. What are my options? I simply want to remove the old and bolt on the new using all original equipment if that's possible.

Thanks,
Paul Schmidt

Answer -
I would install a S&S. You only have to change the carb and the intake. You would not be using the air filter cover, but the one that come with it.
Good luck and happy riding

Answer -
S&S makes two carbs. The "E" and the "G". The G is to big for your bike so you need the E.
yes you can use your throttle cable. You buy the carb as a kit. It come with the carb, manifold, air filter and air filter cover. It has everything you need
Good luck and happy riding

Answer -
Yes you can use the stock cable. You dont have to change to a two cable system, but it is recommend by S&S

Mike

Answer -
I would stick with the S&S due to the ease of setting it.
Mike

Answer
Install a different carb is a personnel preference. Some like one carb over another.
You can use the single cable if you wish. The idle cabe is to pull the fuel system shut if the throttle cable gets stuck.
By the way, the guy at told you wrong. there is in clearence problem with the S&S
Good luck and happy riding
