Motorcycle Repair - Gear Shift problems

Expert: Mike Wells - 11/5/2004

Question
1998 34,000 miles Harley FLHTC Electra Glide Having a hard time getting it into neutral on the foot shift. Got any ideals?

Answer
There is a very small space on the shifter drum for neutral.
After a lot of miles they usually get difficult due to the fact that they wear. The only thing you can do is remove the shifter drum and inspect for wear and usually replace it. I also own a 1998 Electra Glide and have the same problem. When the bike is running it is tough to get it into neutral. I have just lived with it. It is a problem I see in alot of harleys with high miles.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
