It sounds tome you may have a vacuum leak at the carb manifolds. You can check for leaks with starting fluid. Spray the fluid around the carb manifolds where they bolt on and where the clamp on. If it reaves up you have a leak.

For Exhaust and Air Filter modifications I would recommend installing a stag 2 DynoJet kit. They are designed for these kind of modifications. They have adjustable jet needs and can be adjusted to resolve a lean or rich fuel mixture issue.
