I recommend the following order for your oil change:

1. Run the bike for 10 minutes to get the oil good and hot.

2. Remove the dipstick and place your oil catch pan under the

  drain plug located on the right cross member in front of

  the rear tire. Remove the plug and drain the oil.  When

  done draining, clean the plug, add a few drops of loctight

  and replace it.

3. place oil catch pan under the filter and remove it.

  Lightly oil the seal on the new filter and install it hand

  tight.

4. Add 3 1/2 quarts of Harley oil;  20w50 works for most

  situations, but check manual for extreme conditions.

5. Replace dipstick and start bike to check for leaks.  Make

  note in your manual of the date and mileage and your done.
