Need help with vintage Hondas from the 1960s? I am an expert with 250-305cc bikes in particular and most all of the other pre-91 models, in general. I do NOT claim to have a great deal of experience on Gold Wings, Cruisers, ATC/ATVs and dirt bikes.

Experience
I have owned/ridden/maintained Honda motorcycles for 35 years. I have written five books on Honda repairs and collecting. I was a service manager for two Honda shops back in the 1980s.

Motorcycle Repair - turn signal stem replacement

Expert: Bill Silver - 10/13/2006

Question
rear turn signal stem on a 86 rebel.
what must be removed to get to the elec wires
to disconnect them.

Answer
Bob, go to: http://www.powersportspro.com/partsfish/login.asp
Sign up, log in, choose HONDA MOTORCYCLES, then CMX250, then 1986 and then TURNSIGNALS.  You can see that the stems are just retained by a nut on the inside of the fender, as I recall, the two wires must be disconnected from the rear harness, so you can withdraw the light assy with the wires, first. Then remove and replace the stem assy. You may have to pull the rear seat section off to access the wiring connections. I did this job once, about 3 years ago, but the details are a little hazy now. I think it took about a half hour to do the whole thing. I recall that was a little more difficult than they usually are for a small bike, like that. The rear license plate bracket may be involved, too.
