Moving Furniture/Maximum Sofa Size

Question

Floor Plan Sketch
Hello,

I am in the process of shopping for furniture for a new apartment I just leased. I want a sofa for the living room, but I have no idea where to start in determining what will fit through my door and hallways since it is an older apartment with a narrow passageways.

My apartment entry door is located perpendicular to the back wall of the shared outdoor hallway, and is right across from the stairs, and there is about 90" of space between my door and the opposing stairwell wall, with the stairwell railing partly in the way on the lefthand side.

If I remove the door, my front door frame is 30.5 inches wide, and 79 inches in height.

From my door, going straight inside, there is 84.5 inches of space from the door to the next wall.

To get to the living room you have to make a near 90 degree turn at that wall down a hallways which is 35 inches wide at its narrowest point to get to the living room, which has an entryway of 38 inches wide by 84 inches in height.

The interior ceilings of my apartment are 112 inches in height.

So my main question is, before I go out buying a sofa, what are the maximum dimensions (depth/height/width) of a sofa that I should be able to fit through the front door and manipulate down the hallway to the living room?

I've attached a very rough sketch of the layout if it helps.

Thank You!

Answer
HI
I hope I will be able to help :)

To be 100% certain all measurements of the sofa should be less than what the measurements of the clearance, however facts such as shape of the sofa, arms and back that will allow sofa to be tilted and or passed through the door diagonally makes a big difference.

According to your measurements they do not look too promising, but same time not as mission impossible - depends on the shape of the sofa.

If you like the sofa it will get inside :). My suggestion will be let the delivery company deliver it and try it, hopefully will fit, in case if it did not fit there are companies who can disassemble and assemble it for you. One of the best companies I would suggest is "All Furniture Services" they very professional, they work 24/7 they do not charge extra for same day service and almost always they can send you someone right away. I'm not sure how much exactly they charge but it is very affordable and considering work I would say cheap. Their web:  http://www.furnitureservices.com tel.: 1 718-268-2727, 1-646-688-4026
Good luck to you!
