Question
Hi Rob,

Have recently purchased a laptop with Windows Media player on it and have spent time loading all my CDs onto it. They're all stored as Windows Media Audio files. Is there a way to convert all these to MP3 files so that I can download them onto my phone (it's not able to play WMA files) or so that i can transfer them to an MP3 player when i eventually get round to buying one?

I noticed in the "options" menu in Windows media player that there is a "Copy Music" settings panel but it's greyed out in my version and so i can't even change this to the "MP3" option which i assume is there, for any future recordings to be done. To be honest, even if i could change it it this wouldn't help me with the 70 or so albums i've copied already, short of copying them all again.

Was wondering if you knew of any solution?

Answer
Hi David,
Firstly you need to get the latest version of Media Player which is version 10. However, you must check that you get the version that is supported by your operating system.
If you are on v10, or once you have installed v10.
Go to this link http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/mp10/getmore/plugins.aspx?locale=4...
Here you can buy plugins that will allow you to select mp3 as the default file type when you rip a CD to your HDD. Any further questions, let me know.
Regards
Rob
