Question i coach cheerleading and i have to edit the music to end at 1 35 to a minute and 45 second how can i do that on the computer
Answer Hi!
You will need the music that you wish to edit to be on your computer and you'll need an audio/sound editing application to complete your task. I will provide step-by-step instructions on how you can accomplish the edit that you need with an sound editing program. (These steps are for Microsoft Windows. If you use Mac OS X or a Linux/Unix system, feel free to let me know and I'll be glad to help.)
3. Click on "Audacity 1.2.6 installer" on the next screen.
(Optional: download the four plug-ins below it also.)
4. The "installer" should automatically download, be sure to save it to a location where you know to find it, such as the desktop.
5. Double-click on the installer & follow the installation steps provided.
6. Open Audacity (it offers to "launch" after the install completes.)
7. Select "File" and "Open..." to open up your music.
8. For editing out a section of the music you have various options in approach. You can fade into the selection at the beginning and fade out at the end, you can start "right on the beat" and end the same, or you can do any combination of those.
9a. If you wish to start right on the beat and end the same, you can accomplish that by: 1) taking the mouse, holding down the left-click on the section in the music where you wish to start (you will see that the music looks like a graph of sorts), 2) while holding down the left-click button drag the mouse to the left or right to select the music you want. The darker shade shows you what is selected. Press the "space" bar to play the selection (space also stops it.) If, at any point, you wish to play from the beginning, select the "Home" key on your keyboard; or to skip to the end, select the "End" key. You can also use the circle-shaped buttons up top.
9b. Select "Edit" and "Copy."
9c. Select "File" and "New" (opens new blank file.)
9d. From new window, select "Edit" and "Paste."
9e. Almost there... Now to save in a format that you can play with other medium, select "File" and then choose any of the options that start with "Export" (WAV is very common, though it takes more space; MP3 is common as well and takes up less space; "Ogg" (Ogg Vorbis) is perhaps - at present - the least well known but is probably the most effective in maintaining quality while saving space. Due to popularity of the other two, you might want to select either "WAV" or "MP3.") You may wish to save the edit in the Audacity format also, in case you want to go back to it and edit again later.
10a. If you wish to fade in and out, follow steps 9a through 9e above. After you have the new excerpt of the music edited and saved you can add the fade-in and fade-out effects, as follows.
10b. Select the desired duration of music that you wish to use as fade-in (with holding the mouse left-click and drag.)
10c. Select "Effect" and "Fade In."
10d. Follow step 10b only select where you wish to fade out.
10e. Select "Effect" and "Fade out."
10f. Save the newly updated music and you're set. Be sure to save it in both the "exported" format and the Audacity format.
During the editing process of any music, you might want to save it often as a safety step, so as not to lose any changes.
