Musical Composition, Theory, Songwriting, and Singing - piano notes and vocal

Expert: Chuck - 8/20/2009

Question
HI.
I've got this problem of not knowing what piano notes fit a vocal.
Please, i will like you to teach me.
Thanks.

Answer
Tayo:

Let me see if I UNDERSTAND your question.  You want to know
which notes on the piano are the ones the voice sings? Are you
asking what notes are in the ''vocal range'' of men and women?

Children don't sing much lower than A below middle C
Adult women usually can sing to F(or lower) below middle C up
to an 1 1/2 octave range (trained women can sing much more)
Adult men usually sing from middle C down about 12 or so notes.

Trained voices that expand their range extend these notes upward
and downward much more. I have about a 4 octave range and some women
sing up to a 5 octave range.  There are many cases of selected training
voices that have BOTH MEN AND WOMEN who can sing the same notes and
develop the SAME RANGE.  Russian basses have expanded their ranges down
almost another full octave below many of the bass singers here in the
USA.

So the ''answer'' as to which notes can be sung by the human voice?
That is entirely up to the person involved.  Some can do a whole lot
more and others barely can sing a country's national anthem.  Children
usually start with a greater range of notes when very young, but if they
don't continue with their vocal work, they will decrease the amount of
notes they can perform.

I hope that is the information you were looking for. Your question is
worded so that I was wondering if I were understanding your question.

Thanks for asking, I hope that helps
