Question Hello, I have recently been rifling through record stores in an attempt at finding any bands which contain (hopefully predominantly) saxophone(s) and violin(s), preferably jazz. However, I have found no such thing, and I was wondering if you know of a few bands you can point me in the direction of or even if this style exists?
Thanks
Answer Here's the deal. You will find plenty of jazz bands with saxophones, of course. But to find one with both sax and violin will be tough. You need to look for really early jazz bands, say before 1930. After that, the violin dropped out of fashion in jazz bands. However, there are some jazz violinists who play solo jazz, and often there are saxophones in the band too. Look for the solo artists Stephane Grapelli, Jean-Luc Ponty, Joe Venuti, Eddie South,
Hezekiah Leroy Gordon, Ray Nance, Regina Carter, Matt Glaser, Sven Asmussen, John Frigo, Joe Kennedy, Jr., and
Emilio Cacere. Hope this helps.
