Subject: Information about careers

Question
Hello, my name is Michael Gebhart.  I am in 7th grade in the PEGASUS program at LaSalle Academy in Providence, RI.  My class is doing a project on a specific career.  We have to reasearch that career and complete a brochure on it.  Although, I do not play the guitar,(I play the piano and flute,) I am interested in researching your occupation, since you have played in bands and have recorded things.  If it is not too much trouble, I would appreciate it if you responded back with some information on performing and playing a musical instrument in general.
                           Thank you,
                           Michael Gebhart

Answer
Hi Michael,

I have always enjoyed playing guitar, I have also taught people to play guitar. I play every day and rehearse once a week with the band, we like to do this to introduce new songs to our set list and I love playing to a live audience (and getting paid too - of course!!).

When It comes to teaching guitar I find that students must be completely dedicated to learning and practising.

When Iam recording I rehearse what I have to play thoroughly, so there are no mistakes, this is when sheer dedication comes in. I find playing guitar very therauputic and relaxing. I do not read music I read tabulature, this can sometimes be difficult but well worth the effort. I hope this can help you in your studies but feel free to contact me again with any other questions.

Finally, to play any instrument you must have dedication and I can honestly say I play from the heart and not from a book.

Good Luck
All the best.
Bruce Clark.
