What is your feeling about the Janus Fund (JANSX).
I have been holding this fund since 1999 as part of
my retirement, which will be in about 9 years.
How do you see this fund preforming?
Should I be worried about the two new managers?
Thank you for your time.
Bob.
Answer Hi Bob. As you are aware as an investor in the fund, Janus has been around a long time and has gone through good and bad times. It is important to keep in mind that Janus' core area of investing is Large US Growth. When investing your money, it is important to make sure you are diversifed, which means capturing all areas of the market, including large US growth and value, small US growth and value and international. In regards to Janus being used for the large cap growth category, I am troubled by their inconsitent performance over the years and the turmoil within the company. Also, whenever new managers come on board it is tough to guage the future performance. With that being said, I am not sure of your other options to consider for replacement of Janus, however, I would entertain the thought of finding an index based replacement fund if one is available or see if other options exist to either replace or use in conjunction with Janus in this category. I hope this helps.
