Topic: Mutual Funds

Expert: John D Smith, CFP
Date: 7/7/2006
Subject: amount to withdraw from 403b funds at age 70 1/2

Question
I have several 403b mutual funds. How much must I withdraw from these funds at age 70 1/2.  Must this be withdrawn from each account or is the amount based on the total value of these accounts?

Answer
Your required distribution amount is based on the total value of all qualified accounts (403b, IRA, etc).  Once this amount is calculated, it can be taken from just one account or several, as long as the total required amount is withdrawn.  I hope this helps.
