Question what do you think of janus mid cap value fund for a long term investment [ 10 years or better]
Answer Dear David:
Morningstar loves that fund. It's an "analyst pick." It's "built for long-term success."
But...
Morningstar has in the past worried about the increasing size of the fund--$6.6 billion recently.
And 10 years is a long time. What if the managers left--perhaps to start a hedge fund?
At one time, Magellan looked like a long-term winner. Then Lynch left--and its glittering record became badly tarnished.
And I hope you don't intend to make this fund the bulk of your portfolio. You should have foreign stocks/funds, too, for example.
In short, this is a good choice in a well-diversified portfolio. But keep watching it. Portfolio managers have a saying: At one time, every stock deserves to be sold. A corollary is that at one time, every mutual fund deserves to be sold.
