MySQL/MySQL cursor / Laravel4 queries

Question
Hello, I'm doing a project in school - a website basically for my institution. I'm using Laravel4 PHP framework and MySQL.
A few days ago one of my teachers asked -
"How many cursors are open at the same time at max?"
Now I got a bit puzzled. I used cursor while using Oracle PL/SQL, I'm guessing MySQL also has something like this. But I've only used SQL queries in my project, no PL. Even then as far my knowledge goes to iterate over collection of rows I need cursors, so somehow cursors are handled internally. So now the main question:
How do I find out how many cursors are open simultaneously? Wouldnt it depend on how many people are visiting my site?

Answer
Dear Sir
