Mythology - greek olympian gods symbols
Expert: William C. Uchtman - 10/23/2009
Question I need to do a project on Olympian gods, and I am doing my research on Hephaestus. We are supposed to find their symbols and their meanings. So far, I've found multiple results, but the most common ones that many sites all have is the axe and fire. But none of them provide meanings of the symbols If you can confirm that that those are infact the symbols, would be great, and most important of all, I need to know the meanings of the symbols.
Answer Here's a list of symbols as best as I can recall:
Zeus - thunderbolt
Hera - peacock
Poseidon - trident
Demeter - grain
Hades - no symbol
Persephone - flowers
Hercules - lion
Apollo - sun
Artemis - moon
Athena - owl
Ares - wolves
Aphrodite - doves
Hephaestus - fire
Hermes - talaria/winged sandals
If you want to know more than that, get back in touch with me and I'll gladly help.
