Who is Homer and what is his role in Greek mythology?

Homer was a bard/poet who lived some time between the 8th-12th century BC. His main role in Greek mythology is that it was he who created the stories of the Iliad (Trojan War) and the Odyssey (adventures of Odysseus)which he sung to his listeners.
