Question
My understanding is that there were 9 muses in Greek Mythology, minor goddesses who presided over the arts and sciences. My question is: what are their names and their particular area of influence?

Hello Susan,

Here they are.....

Calliope = philosophy, is the eldest of the MUSES.

Clio = history  

Erato = lyric poetry and art.  

Euterpe  = singing   The flute is her instrument

Melete = Practice.

Melpomene = drama – tragedy

Mneme =  memory.

Polymnia =  literary arts = writing  

Terpsichore = dance

Thalia = drama – comedy

Urania  = astronomy
