About Coy Jordan
Expertise
I can answer any questions about drivers, cars, crews, teams, shops, championchips and any technical question about the rules and regulations of NASCAR. The only question I might not be able to answer is one that deals with the small parts inside the car that help the car's performance, but the stuff such as the body, engine, and spoiler are easy.

NASCAR Racing - selectiing a pit

Expert: Coy Jordan - 3/29/2009

Question
Who gets to select their pit and in what order?

Answer
Hi Patricia,

The drivers and their crews select what pit stall they want based on how they qualify.  For example, if Dale Jr qualifies first, he has the first choice of what pit stall he wants.

Usually, the first place qualifier wants the first pit stall because it is the closest to the exit line where the pits end. After that, the best pit stalls are any with an empty space in front of them, especially the ones before and after the opening to the garage area.  However after the first 3 or 4 qualifiers, it really doesn't matter anymore because all of the stalls are back to back, and very crowded.

Hope I helped you!
Coy Jordan.
