Question I have recently, maybe 5 months ago, had acrylic nails applied. The nail technician does in fact put the liquid that turns the gel into powder on the skin around the nail. I read in one of your posts that is can cause allergy. Before my last fill on pink and white, I asked the technician to trim my cuticles as they were getting raw and peeling. Following, she used primer which burned slightly during the application. After the fill, in the next few hours, my cuticles and the entire area around the nail became swollen, itchy and painful. I went back to the technician the next day, realizing that I was having a reaction and she recommended that I wait to remove the nails to see if the reaction reduced or went away. I am in my second day of swelling and pain. Do you have a recommendation and do you have a referral? I live in the San Fernando Valley, Tarzana area. Thank you.
Answer Oh sweetie, that sounds horrid. I want you to know that, cuticles should NEVER be trimmed. This ups the exposure by opening your body up to whatever is irritating the outside of your skin, and puts it INSIDE. And you are right about having a reaction because of the technique she used.
The nails need to be removed, and you need to see a Dr. as soon as possible to make sure you haven't got an infection.
I would find some cortisone cream in the meantime, and no more cutting, ok?
