Hello. After thinking long and hard, I decided to have my nails done with gel. However, after reading about gel nails, I am beginning to think that the salon I went to just ripped me off. The manicurist claimed that he did gel nails for me. However, when he was applying the gel, he used white powder and kept on dipping his brush into a violet-looking liquid. He then spread the mixture of the two on my nails and there was no UV curing afterwards.
Does this mean that they just did acrylic nails and lied to me?

Dear Olga,

Although sometimes techs will mix gel with acrylic for better results thy will still need to cure the mixture with UV light to initiate and finish the curing process. I think your salon has applied acrylics to your hands. Ways to find out is to go back and ask why they did not use UV light to finish the "Gel"nails or find out your self, gel is a non porous products after curing so nothing can penetrate or dissolve, acrylics however are disolvable in for example acetone.

Anyway always look for salons with quality products (IBD, EzFlow, Super Nail or ESN)and make sure the tech is certified.
