Nail Care & Manicures - UV gel nails - I need to do it myself.

Expert: Heather Reynosa-Davis - 6/7/2008

Question
I have already been using gel nails using a Ocius 9watt lamp and ESN gels. I have to do my nails myself because I live in Costa Rica and do not want to depend on anyone else. I have been happy so far after 2 years.
I like the gels because they are durable, they don't loose their shine when exposed to mosquito spray etc., no need to polish and look natural.
The only things I don't like is it takes me about 2 hours to do my own nails... I use the white gel by stringing a smile line and all that does take longer.
Also, I quit using the top gel because for some reason it didn't shine like the plain clear gel. I noticed a little yellowing and wondered if it was because the top gel might have something that prevented yellowing or maybe it was just the brand I was using -ESN.
While I am in the US for a few weeks, I need to order more bulbs and gel. Sally Beauty here in Louisville no longer carries these bulbs or gels. Can you suggest a supplier. Would you suggest another brand? Can I use my lamp with other brand gels?
I thought at first the "no light" gels sounded good but I read where they come off with acetone. is that true? I don't need that.
Also, is there a "form" you can recommend for slight extensions when I need it. I keep my nails kind of short, but a form would come in handy, but I would like a permanent one so I wouldn't need to keep buying them.
Thank you so much for sharing your information.
Sorry for so many questions.

Answer
I would love to help you, but it is illegal for me to give you professional information about professional products, without a license to perform nail services professionally.

It seems like an easy "no brainer" thing to do, but you could be exposing yourself to a possible allergy, not to mention a few other disorders caused by "do it yourself" techs that don't want to depend on others for their nails.

Good luck to you. :)
