Question QUESTION: hello, i/ve been a nail tech for 9 years and use tammy taylor products. it takes me 1 hr and 15 min to do a backfill and feel this is too much time. i charge $32 for a backfill and $28 for a fill and feel i am loosing money but dont want to charge any more if fear of customers complaining too much charged. i have 2 customers that get the pink and white acrylic and always have a problem with them getting 1 nail plate lifting and dont know what i am doing wrong. this is frustrating. i give them thymolize to reattach the plate to the bed and waite for it to grow out until we cover it again but this a recurring problem. they used to wear gel and said this never happened with the gel. i do not have this with all of my clients either. they both wear gloves alot since they garden quite often. could this be the problem? please consider this question to be answered. thank u alot.
ANSWER: Anytime a nail plate is lifting from the nail bed, you can bet on it being caused by some sort of trauma.
If you are using Tammy Taylor products, you tend to work quite wet, and also use a very rough file for prep work. These both can cause damage: working too wet exposes your client to uncured product, which can lead them to have a lifelong allergy- which can show up in the form of onycholysis (de-tachment of the nail plate from the nail bed). Over filing with a rough abrasive can also cause onycholysis, by removing too many layers of the nail plate,exposing soft tissue in the nail bed or simply thinning it out to the point of separation.
If you are experiencing true onychomychosis, this is a fungal or bacterial infection and should only be treated by a doctor.
It's important that we not try to compete with discount salons, and not spend so much time focusing on how FAST we can be. Focus on putting out high quality work, raise your prices, and everything else will follow :) I hour and 15 minutes is right on the nose for timing, and if customers complain about paying more, then they don't care about the quality of work you put out, and were not loyal in the first place. Clients that want quality work care about their hands, and will be more than happy to pay you to take care of them :)

Answer I am a Grand Master Nail Stylist for CND (Formerly known as Creative Nail Designs), and am completely satisfied with my products and the enhancements I put out. I highly recommend attending any training you can get to in using these products, to make sure you are using them in the best way to get the best results every time. I would recommend doing this with ANY line you choose to use, just do alot of research and make sure your company is reputable from every angle. :)
