Nail Care & Manicures - solar acrylic gel?

Question
Hi, I just recently got "nails" for the first time.  When I went into the salon, I had no idea there were so many different types  of nails.  I should mention that there was a slight language barrier and I was getting confused at the descriptions she was offering.  I got white tips glued onto my natural nails, then a coat of pink powder.  I went back 9 days later because they seemed to be lifting at the cuticle.  It has been 8 days since the last "fill in" they seem to be lifting again.  My question is....what is the difference between solar, gel, acrylic, pink & white, etc. What should I ask for, I want the permanent french look, easy maintenance, don't care about expense.  I do get a bit "neurotic" and get crazy if I think they are lifting.  The "nail tech" said next time I get pink and white powder.  Is this the next step for me am I going in the right direction? What would you recommend?  Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your help

Answer
Let me break down your choices for you. You can choose from the following...

ACRYLIC- which is a powder based system that can go over your natural nails. Acrylics can be one all one color which comes out clear. They can also be done with two colors. White powder at the Tip and pink/clear powder on the rest. What you have is a lazy way to combine the both. It is a white tip with clear powder. The reason she said next time you can have pink and white is because next time she will put the white powder where your white tip is now.

Gels- gels are a gel based formula. It is painted on like a thick glossy polish. It has to cure under a light to harden. Gels can be done all clear or they can be done pink and white. Just like acrylics.

Manicure- Natural nail care with no product. Paint on french with nail polish.

You can choose whatever system you want.everybody likes different things. My first choice is Pink and White acrylics. And it sounds like that is what you will have next time you go. However I do suggest you change salons. You mentioned your nails were lifting after 9 days. Thats not good. You should go  2 weeks and be ready for a fill with out lifting.  Make sure you choose a clean place. Make sure they speak english!! And make sure you are getting a brand name product such as creative OPI IBD.
