I briefly joined the competition circuit in 2002, taking first place in the second annual Strut Your Stuff Online competition in the Enhancement 2 category. In 2009 I have decided to make time in my schedule to get back into competition by joining "Team Pink," the competition team captained by current world champion nail technician, Lynn Lammers.
I boast several contributions to articles that have appeared in both Nails and Nailpro magazines, including a brief stint as a Nails Magazine Help Desk contributor and now I write a semi-weekly blog for Nails Magazine while continuing to attend tradeshows and continuing education events.

Question hi i have just purchased a uv lamp and gels could you tell me if i could use a nail vanish under the last coat of gel or should i put it on under the top coat. i have tried several ways but have the following problems sticky nails even with wipes, when nails dry they look like they are water marked, which seems to appear with the top coat.
Answer You can't put nail polish under gel. It just doesn't work. The polish can't dry properly when it's sealed under a coat of gel or UV gel topcoat. You have to polish OVER the gel if you are going to use polish.
So you would apply each layer of gel, curing as recommended by the manufacturer. Then apply the last layer of gel. Then polish. Then regular topcoat, not UV gel topcoat. You can also end the gel portion with the UV gel topcoat and then apply varnish on top, but you'll need to use traditional topcoat over the polish.
