Question Due to an injury my nail is ajar to the left but still in tact. I went to the doctor because I had a bed of tissue of the right side of my nail, where there was no nail since it was ajar to the left, and my doctor used some type of "acid" that got rid of the tissue but I still have a small amount of dried blood there. The bottom right side of my nail started to peel off and I don't know if I should use a bandaid to cover it or keep picking at it. It looks like the bottom of the nail is still crooked and my concern is that my nail is going to continue to grow at an angle instead of straight. The top of of the finger is still swollen because of a fracture in that particular bone but do you think my nail will grow back straight if I peel it off? I don't have a picture on hand but can send or attach one later if that helps.
Answer I would definitely talk to your doctor about your concerns, but from my interpretation of what you are describing I think you'll just have to wait and see. I don't think you should pick at the nail, picking is almost never good for nails. Once the swelling in your finger goes down and the nail has a chance to heal and start growing again you'll be able to see if it's going to straighten out. If the matrix (where the nail is formed, below the cuticle) was damaged, the nail may never grow properly again. Likewise, if the tissue along the nail bed (the skin under the nail that the nail should be sitting on top of) has been permanently damaged, then the nail plate may never be able to attach to that skin again. All you can do is wait and see. It might take a couple of months before you'll be able to tell for sure.
