Nail Care & Manicures/gel

Question
My manicurist applied the gel before the nail polish and the polish didn't last more than a couple of days.  Friends told me they had the gel applied as a final coat and the polish lasted. Which is the correct application?

Answer
Susan,
Gel is not applied over nail polish. Gel goes ON the nails, is cured under a light. At NO time is a liquid and powder used. If it is, you do NOT have gels on your nails. Your friends probably have a UV top coat and the shop they go to is telling them it is gel. They are getting duped and probably paying more money for this.
I would need to know exactly what your tech did to know if you had true gels.
Hope this helps,
Lynnette
