Nail Care & Manicures/Old Nail Polish

Question
I was just going through some old nail polish I have, and I have two questions. (Please note that some of this polish is probably 10-15 years old...yikes! The only reason that I have not automatically pitched these bottles is that after some shaking, the color and consistency of the polishes appear normal.) So...

1. Is this really old polish safe to use? Will anything dangerous seep into my nail bed and/or blood stream?
2. Is it likely that these polishes (especially bright colors) will leave a stain on my nails after removing?

Thanks!

Answer
The polish should be safe to use. No problem there. Staining depends on the color of the polish, but old polish shouldn't stain any more than it would have when it was new. It really helps to  use a basecoat for any color  polish though. If you use a basecoat that is designed as a basecoat, it will help the polish last longer, as well as help prevent staining.
