Nashville - Moving to Nashville

Expert: Jan Duke - 9/4/2008

Question
QUESTION: Hello, this may seem a bit awkward to most; however, I plan to move to Nashville, TN.

I am 20 years old and I currently live in Omaha, NE. I have lived here for almost a decade and I love to travel; I want a change of pace in my life. I have decided to take the plunge and move out on my own to Nashville, TN.

Problem is.. I know nothing of the place.. I have never been there in my life nor do I have any friends or family there.
Like I said, this may seem awkward to most, but to me, this is me breaking away from my previous life. I want to start anew. I want to start "MY" life not the life my parents set out for me.

I was wondering if anyone knew where I should start looking for apartments. I will eventually attend college, however, not until I have a decent life going in Nashville. I'm still a young guy, being only 20, I would like a location that is close to the "action" or "attractions." Someplace I would feel "home," where I can be close to people my age. I'm a young guy, so I like to go out and hang out with people around my age.

A location that is not to overly priced and at the same time, where I won't be home alone everyday.

ANSWER: HI Adam I would check out the area around Vanderbilt - it's a cool and hip part of town with plenty of folks in your age group to hang out with.
Thanks Jan

QUESTION: Great!

And, Vanderbilt, is that like West Nashville? What's that area called exactly so I can look it up?

Thanks.

Answer
It's technically the Green Hills/Midtown Subarea which includes several different smaller neighborhoods.
Hillsboro
Music Row
Vanderbilt
West End
Belmont
Vanderbilt
Edgefield
