Question
Hi Jan-
You sound like just the kind of person I need ask for advice. My husband has an opportunity to transfer to Tennesee from our current home in the suburbs of Dallas. Even though we both have been here since childhood,we are seriously thinking of leaving the scorched earth down here. My husband works from home but would call primarily on customers in Memphis and Nashville. So, no daily commute but some travel and going to the airport. We think Nashville is a better fit for us, But would like to hear your advice on what suburbs would be the best fit for us. We have three children ages 4,6 and 8 and attend very highly rated public schools. Other things I have read have shown Franklin to be highly rated, but I may want to be a little further out since my two youngest have mild asthma, and I'm looking for better air. I don't know if we could handle being way out in the country, but I definitely don't want to be in another subdivison where my neighbors are 10 ft away. I really appreciate any advice you could give us since we are prayerfully considering whether this is the right thing for our family

Thank you,
Susy

Answer
Hi Susy,
Yes Franklin is a nice quaint little town! Just about any place in entire county, Williamson, is rated really high so any choice to relocate there is a good one. Most of the schools in tht county rate pretty high too and that county does spend more on the schools than just about any other. I will tell you that land is more expensive in that area than just about any other area in Middle Tn.
But there are other alot of good areas to live in this area some of my favorite are Peagram, Nolensville, West Meade, Hendersonville, Brentwood, and Mt Juliet.
Also the annual tests scores (NCLB) for the schools should be released by November so I would look at those too in making a relocation decision

You mentioned that 2 of your children have mild asthma so I'm going to let you know that Tennessee in general has lots of allergens mostly due to it being so "green" and many people, including myself, who have never had allergy problems will get/have seasonal allergies here. So I would consulte with their Dr. and try to find out what sets their asthma off. You might even want to track the air quality for a few months or even take a vacation here 1st to see what affect it will have, if any, on the children.
One of my children has seasonal allergies that can get pretty bad if not monitored with meds and the worst times of year are Mid-May thru Mid-June and Mid-Aug thru the 1st week of Oct. (the blooming and harvest seasons)
