Nashville - Relocation

Expert: Jan Duke - 7/12/2006

Question
I am hoping to relocate to Nashville this fall and would like to learn where the safest and best neighborhoods are for single women.  Also I am interested in a condo or patio home where the outside maintenance is provided.  Any suggestion as to where I could find this type of housing?  Also how much are car tags?  And what is the difference in property tax comparing city versus county?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi
Car Tags are around $80 here is the breakdown- Metro Sticker $55 plus Car Registration $24

The 2005 tax rate for Urban Services District is $4.69, and the rate for General Services District is $4.04. Residential property tax is based on the assessed value, which is 25% of the appraised value, and commercial property tax is also based on the assessed value, which is 40% of the total appraised value. Collection of property tax comprises approximately 46% of the entire Metro Government operating budget. This includes collection on 23,902 parcels of commercial property and 182,382 residential parcels in Davidson County. There are 6,463 total parcels, commercial and residential, that are tax exempt. Including the commercial, utility, residential and personalty totals, over 238,088 tax statements were mailed during the year 2004.

Here is a link to the metro website that offers profiles to most of the neighborhoods, this should help you decide on an area that you would like, it offers tons of info from the housing costs to where the nearest police/fire station can be found. As far as which are..hmmm, I like Hillsboro, Edgefield and Belle Meade, West Meade, and Green Hills.  http://www.nashville.gov/mpc/neighprof.htm

As far as condo living there's a realtor that specializes only in condo listings in the Nashville area, he's even known as the Condo King
Here is a link to his website http://nashvillecondoking.com if anyone can find you a townhouse or condo it should be him.

Hope this helps,
Jan
