Nashville - moving to Nashville

Expert: Jan Duke - 11/20/2006

Question
Jan, I have been thinking of moving to Nashville to be close to my parents. Is
Nashville really conservative? I am interested in Spiritual (being different from
Religious) thinking, Yoga and Organic Farmers markets. Progressive sort of
thinking. Is there some things of this nature there?

Thank you,
Sheila

Answer
Hi Sheila,
While Tennessee in general is a bit on the conservative side, it is also very diverse and normally very accepting of other lifestyles and cultures. In fact, Nashville has one of the largest Kurd populations in the entire country.

It also has a pretty good Yoga Society -www.yogasocietynashville.com

As far as organic farming goes there is plenty of farm land available at decent prices as well as about 10 certified organic farms, but don't let that low number fool you cause a lot of local farmers and citizens grow only organic foods and just don't get certified.
Check out this website- www.picktnproducts.org it should give you abetter idea about Tennessee agricultural products that are grown here.

If you need more detailed info on demographics and such, check out the Census Bureau website here:
http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/47000.html and just put in a Middle Tn County for local info.

We have 9 or 10, last time I checked, that are included in the Nashville/Davidson Metro Area:

Davidson, Cheatham, Robertson, Williamson, Wilson, Dickson, Montgomery, Rutherford, Sumner and maybe Maury County.

Hope this helps,
Jan
