Question Jan, We are going to be staying one night and a morning in Nashville on our way through for a wedding in Knoxville. We will be comprised of me, my wife, son(5), and mother. None of us has ever been to Nashville. We would appreciate tips on what we could do as far as sightseeing in such a short amount of time to get a flavor of Nashville. Also a nice but reasonably priced places to stay and maybe restaraunts with the local faire of Nashville. We will be driving so if you could direct some hotels close to your suggestions that would be great! Thanks
Answer Hi David,
If you're planning on staying just one night and a morning I would stay in the downtown area even though it would be a bit higher priced-try the Holiday Inn Express (920 Broadway). It's one of my favorites, they have decent prices, two/three blocks off of the interstate, free breakfast bar, free parking (last I heard) and the staff is great too. There's also a few more decent priced hotels downtown so I would call and check around too, you might catch a special rate.
Also by staying downtown you could see more attractions in a smaller amount of time including-
Country Music Hall of Fame, Frist center for the Visual Arts, Printers Alley, Fort Nashbourgh, Tenneessee State Museum, Bicentennial Mall, Ryman Auditorium and the Arcade.
There is also a great "points of interest free walking tour map guide" available at the Visitor Center (located in the GEC).
At night you would be right in the middle of all of the honkey-tonks and nightlife. Music Row is just across the interstate (2 miles away),you could even drive thru there on your way out to Knoxville.
As for food, there is a McDonalds (for your son)located on Broadway as well as other decent priced restaurants within walking distance including Pizza, Mexican, Japanese and American (most are just a block or two off of Broadway.
For more of a Nashville style atmosphere there's also the Wildhorse Saloon, Jacks BBque and a few more located in the arcade too
Hope this helps and enjoy your visit to Nashville,
Jan
